Ritz Paris re-opens

After four years of renovations and a re-introduction that was delayed by a major fire earlier this year, the Paris Ritz is back in business today, June 6.

The hotel owned by Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed closed for a US$450 million revamp in 2012. The updates resulted in fewer rooms for the Place Vendôme icon — 142 rooms, versus 159 originally in the hotel, which first opened in 1898. Other changes: a new summer restaurant with a movable glass canopy; a larger ballroom; and updated technology in its rooms.
