revamp: Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam

The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky recently unveiled the redesign of its public areas, bar and restaurants. The Amsterdam hotel’s transformation was led by Studio Proof and aims to combine cosmopolitan style with references to the 1920s.

The new design places the lobby lounge at the heart of the property. Structural columns are uniquely smoked mirror and dark stained oak, and the floor is porcelain-tiled. The new reception desk was constructed from dark-stained oak bases with white carrara marble and bronze counters. A large circular light inset into the lounge’s ceiling is featured over specially designed sofas. The executive lounge was refreshed with 1920s style and modern amenities for VIP guests to stay connected.

The redesigned Grand Café strives to mix elegant and contemporary elements while holding true to the tradition of European cafés. During the day, the space is flooded with natural light and in the evening, modern chandeliers create a dramatic effect. The White Room, previously named Reflet, now features wimple white, ivory and fawn tones that strive to elevate the restored gold and yellow hues of the original elements of the 19th-century building.

The new Tailor Bar’s ambience is “vintage chic,” featuring leather sofas, blue velvet armchairs, deep-buttoned padded wall, and a specially designed rug depicting a tailor’s cutting pattern.
