The building does not give much away, but beyond a blue door and metal awning is the inviting lobby of the Gowanus Inn & Yard. The industrial chic hotel is located in Gowanus, an idustrial estate and up-and-coming district of Brooklyn. The open lobby and sunken common room is characterized by high ceilings and an overall a mix of industrial with Old Americana. Details include gridded windows, a herringbone patterned red brick floor, whitewashed brick walls, and warehouse-special metal framed windows near the ceiling. Potted plants bring natural touches to the indoor urban setup.
Dark corridors offset the lighter guestrooms, which are all different. The minimalist accommodations are designed to maximize their limited space with comfortable, custom furniture configured to make them feel larger. All have hardwood floors, a flat-screen TV, designer toiletries, plus tea and cofee making facilities. Suites are crafted with timber planks that serve as the backdrop for charcoal or black furnishings with some having private saunas.
There’s a bar and a seasonal courtyard terrace. 24-hour front desk.
